What is OpenIDEA?

OpenIDEA is an IDE for people whose hands already know IntelliJ IDEA. The IntelliJ keymap is the default, tool windows sit where you expect them, and Search Everywhere finds classes, files, symbols, actions and text from one popup.

It ships with an editor, LSP-based code insight for 60+ languages, a debugger (DAP), Git, a terminal, and database and HTTP clients.

The core is written in Rust on Tauri 2, so it starts quickly and uses far less memory than a JVM-based IDE. On a ~770-file Python project it settles in about a second at roughly 170 MB of RAM. IntelliJ does deeper language analysis, so it is a trade-off rather than a drop-in replacement for heavy refactoring work.
