What is Openfire?
Openfire (formerly Wildfire) is a cross-platform instant messaging (IM) and groupchat server. It uses the only widely adopted open protocol for instant messaging, XMPP (also called Jabber). Openfire is incredibly easy to setup and administer, but offers rock-solid security and performance.

- Zergling_man doesn't think Matrix.org is an alternative to OpenfireOpenfire is server software for the XMPP protocol. Matrix is a protocol itself. matrix.org is both the design board for that protocol, and a server that uses it. Should be an alternative to XMPP directly, instead.
