What is OmniSnap?

OmniSnap is a lightweight, open-source browser extension for Chromium browsers (Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge, Brave) engineered to overcome the chronic limitations, privacy risks, and frequent downtimes of centralized web downloaders.

Unlike web-based download services that constantly suffer from rate-limited backend APIs, domain seizures, and intrusive adware, OmniSnap executes entirely on the client side inside the user's browser with zero intermediary servers.

💡 Why OmniSnap is Different:

  • Client-Side Reddit Audio/Video Synchronization: Reddit serves video and audio in separate DASH/HLS streams, causing conventional scrapers to download muted video files. OmniSnap reconstructs and multiplexes both streams locally on the fly, delivering fully synchronized MP4s with audio without uploading anything to a third-party server.
  • Zero-Server Reliability: Centralized tools (like Cobalt or SaveFrom) frequently go offline due to hosting costs and API bans. OmniSnap interacts directly with native browser video elements and network streams, guaranteeing it stays functional regardless of external server status.
  • Instant Fast-Path (Shift + Click): Eliminates popups, modal delays, and quality-selection dialogs. Holding Shift while clicking the in-player button triggers an instant, maximum-resolution grab in ~0.1 seconds.
  • Lossless Frame Grabber & Audio Extraction: Pause any video to extract full-resolution PNG frames (free from video player controls and overlays) or extract clean M4A audio tracks using Chrome's Offscreen Audio API.
  • In-Player Native Integration: Injects subtle, non-intrusive action buttons directly onto media containers in Reddit, X (Twitter), TikTok (high-res source without bloated watermarks), and standard HTML5 players.

🛡️ Privacy & Technical Architecture:

  • Built strictly on Manifest V3 standards with sandboxed offscreen document processing.
  • 100% Client-Side: No remote tracking, zero telemetry, no user accounts, and no data collection.
  • Free and Open Source under the MIT License.
