DownloadHelper is a tool for web content extraction. Its purpose is to capture video, audio, and image files from many sites.
Just surf the Web as you are used to, when DownloadHelper detects it can do something for you, the icon gets animated and a menu allows you to download files by simply clicking an item
For instance, if you go to a YouTube page, you'll be able to download the video directly on your file system. It also works with MySpace, Google videos, DailyMotion, Porkolt, iFilm, DreamHost and others. You can even setup the extension to automatically convert the downloaded movies to your preferred video format.
When you are on a page containing links to images or movies, you can download some or all of them at once. Moving the mouse over the items in the menu will highlights the links directly in the page to make sure they are the ones you want to pick up.
DownloadHelper also allows you to download files one by one, so that you keep bandwidth to surf for other stuff to download.
Because of Google WebStore restrictions, the Chrome version of the add-on does not download videos from YouTube. Use the Firefox version for this purpose.
One time purchase (perpetual license) that cost about $28

Make this page better by adding screenshots to Video DownloadHelper.
Not free anymore. Depends on a helperapp and aggregates files with a QR code in the corner. After paying for the registered version the QR code will disappear. So; not free or freemium but a rip off...See why people do not like Video DownloadHelper 😡 Post your review

Used to be good. Now they want $30 freakin dollars for a browser extension, otherwise they watermark your video. How bout no.
Tip is to use any good video clip cataloger in combination with this otherwise you will end up with a littered filesystem.
I use to use this a lot, but nowadays I just buffer the video or whatever, and then goto my Cache folder of my webbrowser and just copy the buffered file.
Going to the cache folder doesn't work in W8.X as the Temporary Files folder is hidden and not accessible.
You might be wondering why you should use DownloadHelper instead some other generic web media ripper out there (there are hundreds of them...). Well, I'll tell you why! :P
DownloadHelper lets you download Youtube videos at HD quality. If a video can play at 1080p, then you can download it at 1080p. A lot of Youtube downloaders are still stuck at an archaic 480p, which some people will find acceptable. But the way I see it, if you're going to download a video, you might as well be able to watch it in full HD glory. Besides, DownloadHelper isn't limited to just Youtube- it works with an incredible number of other sites, too. I particularly like its ability to rip music from Pandora, Rhapsody, and similar services (Grooveshark doesn't work). It's an easy and safe way to get free music.
Also, as a Firefox addon, DownloadHelper is built right into your browser. That makes downloading a much faster, smoother process than a web-based downloader (e.g. KeepVid), or a downloader running on a separate program in Windows (i.e. Orbit Downloader).
Anyways, to sum things up, I recommend DownloadHelper because it lets you download high quality videos, it's not limited to just Youtube, and it's convenient and easy to use.
This is a Great program I use it all the time, it helps when I can actually save the videos I am wanting, and for tutorial videos it really helps because then I dont have to be online to watch them over and over again.
i love using this it's great! it gets the job well done for me thank you :)
This Add-on no longer functions near as well as previous versions. V 7.0.0 downloads very slow slow when it detects a video. Now there is a companion app that seems to ad no practical functionality. This version fails to detect videos in ost case as opposed to the previous version which failed to detect very infrequently. It seems like every video that is detected (hardly every) needs to be converted. This conversion process runs for hours if you let it with no file output. My system is an ASUS laptop running Win 8.1, 7th Gen I7, 8GB RAM. Using Firefox 52.5.0 (64-bit) as browser. I back "reved" to FF 52.5.0 after 57 did not work perform. Please fix this Add-on. Worked great in the past.
It works real good and fast and most of all it is safe.
A great tool for fetching media in firefox, as the other commentators have said. Allowing for you-tube videos, and others, to be saved for re-watching, et cetera.
Best tool for grabbing media from Firefox.
But media musst be streamed, that's the only disadvantage.
Great program I use it all the time!
