What is Nuance Dragon?
We rely on our computers more and more every day, whether we’re creating documents and reports, surfing the Web or catching up on email. But it’s not always easy to complete everything you need to do on your PC. Now there’s a faster and easier way to interact with your PC. Just say words and watch them appear on your computer screen. Tell Dragon what you want your computer to do, and Dragon will execute the task: "Open Microsoft Word," "Set font size to 18," or "Minimize all windows." You can even use voice commands to edit and format your text, search the web or send email.
Dragon is available for PC, Mac, iPhone and iPad and Android .

jebofponderworthy doesn't think NaturalReader is an alternative to Nuance Dragon

o You do not have to speak clearly and slowly in order for it to understand you. One of its first instructions is to speak naturally this is such an important feature of the software that they included it in its name "Dragon NaturallySpeaking" o increasing its accuracy over time o learns from its mistakes o train it to recognize words o add to its vocabulary
I really appreciate your efforts to provide alternatives for Briana!!! GOOD WORK AND KEEP IT UP!!!
As of 2018 Nuance has completely eliminated support for the home and professional versions of Naturally Speaking on Macintosh OS. While you can find retail packages of Version 6, they no longer support it under any circumstance. And due to major changes in the OS, they no longer run under MacOS 10.15 (Catalina)
Sadly there is only one alternative that is suitable for use in medical practice (HIPAA), or in education (FERPA), and I suspect legal and financial business or any company that does not want a 3rd party having 100% access to the spoken word being translated). That option costs about $50.00 per month, and still requires sending the audio over the internet to be processed.
I find it incredibly frustrating that there were options other then Nuance for years, working on the Mac without requiring internet connection or transmission of data. And over the years Nuance has bought all 4 of the prior Mac Compatible speech to text programs that were on the market, and now they have gone from monopolizing the market to abandoning it fully.
