What is VoxScribe?

VoxScribe is a free, open-source voice dictation app for Windows 10 and 11. Hold a hotkey (F9 by default, or Left Shift), talk, release, and the text is typed directly into whatever window has focus, with no clipboard and no cloud.

Transcription runs locally on your CPU with Whisper (via faster-whisper), so your voice never leaves your PC. After the one-time model download it works fully offline.

What it does:

  • Hold-to-talk global hotkey that works in any app
  • Import audio or video files (wav, mp3, m4a, mp4, mov and more), several at once
  • Export .srt subtitle files
  • About 28 languages with auto-detect, plus a Translate to English mode
  • Voice commands for punctuation, and "scratch that" to undo
  • Filler-word cleanup and custom word replacements
  • Optional "keep microphone ready" so your first word is never clipped

Free with no account. An optional one-time Pro upgrade ($14, no subscription) adds text snippets and the Medium and Large Whisper models. MIT licensed.
