NiceVault keeps your files in an encrypted volume. A volume is one file with the extension .nvault: copy it, back it up, put it in a synced folder or carry it on a USB stick. You open it with a password and browse it in a built-in file manager, with previews for images, audio, video, PDF, text and more. Nothing needs a driver or administrator rights to look at your files. Mounting as a drive is optional (FUSE on Linux, WinFsp on Windows).
It can prepare a USB stick with two partitions: one holds the program for Windows, macOS and Linux, the other holds your volumes. Start the program from the stick and unlock. Nothing is installed on the host.
Each volume takes up to 8 passwords, has an optional duress password that destroys the keys, and carries a password manager with one-time codes and imports from Bitwarden, KeePass and CSV. Encryption is Argon2id, XChaCha20-Poly1305 and SQLCipher.
Limits: no hidden volumes, no plausible deniability, and no audit by anyone outside the project yet. The macOS build exists but is not fully tested. iOS and Android versions are in development and not released. No telemetry; the app goes online only to check for updates, which can be turned off.
