What is Melodex?

Melodex is a free, open-source music player designed to help you explore and rediscover your own music collection.

Instead of relying only on traditional lists and search, Melodex offers a visual Album Wall, an interactive Music Map, and listening journeys that connect tracks across your collection. You can browse music spatially, discover related songs, and build a route between tracks.

Melodex supports local music collections, including network-accessible libraries, alongside optional connected music sources. It also includes playback controls, queue management, lyrics, artwork, and interactive music visualizations.

The app is local-first: your music files stay where they are. No account, subscription, server, or AI model is required for normal local playback.

Melodex is available as a public beta for macOS, Windows, and Linux, with an Android version offering local playback and optional bridge connectivity. It is released under the MIT licence.
