Criteria I look for are as follows: —> Open source code: publicly audited —> Privacy-focus: minimal data …
What is Lockbook?
Privacy shouldn't be a compromise. That's why we created Lockbook, a secure note-taking app that lets you record, sync, and share your thoughts. We collect no personal information and encrypt your notes so even we can't see them. Don't take our word for it: Lockbook is 100% open-source.
Polished: We built Lockbook for everyday use because we use Lockbook every day. Our native apps feel at home on every platform, and we've gone the extra mile to ensure they're fast, stable, efficient, and delightful to use. We can't wait for you to try them.
Secure: Keep your thoughts to yourself. Lockbook encrypts your notes with keys that are generated on your devices and stay on your devices. Only you and the users you share your notes with can see them; no one else, including infrastructure providers, state actors, or Lockbook employees, can access your data.
Private: Know your customer? We sure don't. We don't collect your email, phone number, or name. We don't need a password. Lockbook is for people with better things to worry about than privacy.
Honest: Be the customer, not the product. We sell a note-taking app, not your data. Enroll in premium for just $2.99 / month and receive 30gb of space.
Developer Friendly: The Lockbook CLI will fit right into your favorite chain of piped-together Unix commands. Search your notes with fzf, edit them with vim, and schedule backups with cron. When scripting doesn't cut it, use our Rust library for a robust programmatic interface.

Looks like a nice UI but im not sure why there isnt a self-hosting option instead of paying for storage with a subscription
It wouldn't install on my Win 10
Hey! Lockbook developer here, and I was able to install on my Win 10 machine just now. I'd like to hear about the difficulties you're having installing our app so I can get that working for you. Any details or screenshots you can share?
Tagged by Windows Defender is a known issue we're working on, but not installing when allowed is unexpected. Is there a particular error you see?
When I click 'run anyway', it launches an installer with a button to install. After clicking to install, I can find Lockbook with the start menu search.
What Windows 10 edition are you using? Home? Pro? Education?
Pro
Is it that the installer opens but the install button does nothing, or does the installer never appear?
Judging by the windows defender comment, it attempted to install the first time, gave a defender warning, was given permission, would no longer install, and then would no longer attempt to install upon further attempts to install.
Did the installer appear on the screen at any point?
no
Okay thanks for the information. Since there's not a lot to go on and since I'm not able to reproduce, my next step is to update the installer to collect more information on whatever issue is happening. Then I'll release a new version and ask you to try again - I'll let you know when.
I appreciate your patience! Probably you're not the only one who'd experience this issue and it'd be much more difficult to resolve without your help.
Sounds good. You're welcome.
I can't complete my registration. After seeing my account key, there's no button. I can't scroll either, since there's no scroll bar. It looks like there's some button below I can't look at. My resolution is small. This might be the problem.
Hey hashzero, I'm one of the devs on the lockbook team, what platform did you try this on?
If you did iOS this may be fixed, could you give this another go? If you did it on macOS we're waiting for Apple to finish reviewing our app, it should be available by the end of today.
macOS release complete
@ParthMehrotra , I was on small laptop on Linux Mint. I'll tell you if it was fixed as soon as I have access to this laptop.
Hey, thank you for getting back to me, once you mentioned linux I was able to reproduce using a smaller resolution and have fixed the bug on our master branch. It's not released yet, but I'll leave a note here as soon as it is. Appreciate you trying the app, and apologize for the inconvenience. Out of curioisity what was the distribution channel you used to download the app? That way I can tell you immediately after it's available on that channel.
Thanks for the feedback. If I'm not mistaken, I downloaded it right from the website, since if I remember right Mint's and Flathub repositories don't have Lockbook yet.
Cool, I'll leave a comment here next release so you can try the next version. We're also working on flatpack support.
Awesome! Good to hear. Thanks for the feedback!
