I inherited a Perl-based project, and Kodomo was listed as part of the workflow, so I downloaded and installed it. The editor won't start up until you log in with an ActiveState account, which you have to create. I created an account with a throwaway email and attempted to continue. After verifying the email I used to create the account, I got 2 spammy emails within 5 minutes. And when I tried to log in using the just-validated account, it was rejected with "Login fails, it appears you are offline". A quick check of their forums showed this is a common problem, and recommendations include disabling your firewall, messing around with your internet proxy, or (my favourite) trying another computer, and if it can connect, then copying configuration files to the computer where it can't connect. There are enough good, free editors and IDEs that work out of the box that I'm not going to waste time debugging this nonsense. Uninstalled and deleted.POX added Komodo IDE as alternative(s) to iD3
