Komodo Edit is a fast, smart, free and open-source code editor.
What is Komodo Edit?
Komodo Edit is a fast, smart, free and open-source code editor. Switching your trusty code editor is hard, but give Komodo Edit (or its big brother Komodo IDE) a try: it'll be worth your while.
Windows, Mac, Linux? Yes. PHP, Python, Ruby, JavaScript, Perl, Tcl, XML, HTML5, CSS 3? Yes, with (customizable) syntax coloring, folding, background syntax checking, and excellent auto-complete and calltips (we call it "code intelligence"). What else? Fast open (no more slow poking around for files); remote file editing; Vi keybindings (good ones); and a toolbox with shell command integration, macros and code snippets... all wrapped around a tricked-out editor and an extension mechanism the same as Firefox's.
There doesn't seem to be a download link. The linked URL is a page telling you that the IDE package is better.

Komodo is a great app, I recommend it for HTML editing
I consider Komodo Edit as one of the best editor / IDE currently free . although SublimeText2 ( and Atom team github will soon be finalized ) is great , if you still want to have a minimum of graphical management for simple tasks without having to go to a json configuration file , Komodo Edit is one of the best alternative for PHP development, but also many other languages ??. Komodo Edit Free edition is found between the editor and the IDE :
I have 5 text editors on my computer: 1. Coda; 2. Komodo Edit; 3. Espresso 2; 4. Dreamweaver; 5. TextMate. I use them all for various things (i.e. - FTP in Coda; CSS stylesheets in Espresso 2; proofreading in Dreamweaver, etc), but I find myself using Komodo Edit more than any of the others, especially lately. It is such an amazing editor, and I can't believe it is free. I downloaded some of the other free editors (Aptana, TextWrangler, etc) and I removed them from my computer shortly thereafter. I found them to be slow and cumbersome, not to mention incredibly buggy. The best combination on Earth is to use Komodo Edit in conjunction with Firebug. That is what I use 95% of the time because there is no environment for developing that can top that combo - just incredible. Komodo Edit is a highly underrated editor. I've used just about all of them, and I'm also extremely picky. If you haven't tried Komodo Edit yet, I highly recommend you do so ASAP (especially in conjunction with Firebug).
Hasn't been updated in awhile. It's like notepad++ w better tools, but its not the best IDE out there. I'll keep looking for something better.
I love Komodo Edit. I bought Adobe CS 4 Web Design Premium from my school for my web design course, and I find myself using Komodo Edit instead of DreamWeaver. Komodo Edit supports plugins, is fairly low-bloat and has tons of options for customizing and tweaking your workspace. Built in FTP, ability to save related files as projects, macros, pretty much everything you would expect from a serious IDE for the low price of free. If you don't need or want a WSYWIG, you can't go wrong with Komodo.
Komodo Edit is indeed Open Source, released under the same license scheme as Firefox:
http://svn.openkomodo.com/openkomodo
Fantastic bit of kit for free - though I think it might only be freeware rather than open source.
Also handles 'projects' - grouping numerous files and resources into a single project to open (something a number of editors that I have tried didn't allow).
Works flawlessly on both my Ubuntu and Win XP machines.
