Rider allows you to begin development immediately. You don't have to go through the awful process of uninstalling every piece of bloatware that Visual Studio installs on your system. Due to the absence of the aforementioned bloatware, Rider exhibits superior performance in comparison to Visual Studio.
This should be the default choice for anyone who wants to get started in .NET/dotNET development.

Unlike Visual Studio, it works on Linux. It's very feature rich, relatively fast and has a large collection of plugins. The fact that it basically integrates Resharper also means it has very extensive refactoring tools.
