Jan. 2025 I considered switching from Thorium to Iridium, but from what I read, Iridium like Thorium and Brave, does not whitelist cookies. That makes cookie management difficult. At least Brave has a work-around using the program CCleaner. The Windows install .zip file is now an incredibly big 2.9gb.

Iridium WAS nice, but they are far behind updates, also seems that or: 1. is abandoned, or 2. they are very slow releasing new updates, because the last update was a year ago, this a big threat for users, a big risk, so, this is not worth the time for now.

I'll keep an eye on their github repo, hoping they update it again. https://github.com/iridium-browser/iridium-browser

google ads layers of evil to chromium to produce chrome.

chromium has some evil in it still

iridium offers evil-free versions of chromium for numerous popular platforms -- most notably NOT mobile.

iridium is best with uBlock Origin (adblock extension) & tampermonkey (adblock enhancing features).

When you allow third parties to whore your privacy for their profit you become their bitch. AdBlock. It is your right to privacy.

Seems like the only decent open source alternative to Chrome that isn't Brave. However, it's dreadfully behind on security updates making it a non-player in the browsing game. A real shame.

Downloads page is 404, home page only has source code. No builds, no installer.

What is Iridium Browser?

Iridium Browser is based on the Chromium code base. All modifications enhance the privacy of the user and make sure that the latest and best secure technologies are used. There are many browsers out there. To our belief, Chrome is fast, stable, and user-friendly, but does not meet many organizations’ demands for security. Since the tight integration with its inventor (Google) makes many things easier, it does not comply to restrictive data environments. Iridium is not another new browser from scratch. It takes the Chromium code base, which is also used for the official Chrome browser, and enhances its security and sets certain policies by default. There are many forks of Chromium-based browsers, yet, in our opinion, they failed in many other key areas important for adoption:

Transparency: With Iridium Browser, the whole process is entirely transparent. The public Git repository allows a direct view of all changes made. The complete source code is therefore available, and unlike other providers, not only binary builds of which it is unknown what has been changed.

Security: Iridium Browser has various enhancements where it forces strict security to provide the maximum level of security without compromising compatibility.

Availability: Our goal is to provide Iridium Browser on the most common desktop platforms that the majority of users run on, including Linux, Windows and OS X.

Deployability: We try to distribute it in ways where it allows easy installation and yet allows administrators to deploy it easily. An example is an MSI-based installation mechanism for easy deployments throughout an entire organization.
