ios-webkit-debug-proxy

A command-line proxy that exposes an iPhone's Safari Web Inspector over the Chrome DevTools protocol, so desktop DevTools can attach to iOS Safari from Linux, macOS or Windows.

The project's own overview diagram: DevTools on the desktop, the proxy, and Safari on the iOS device.

What is ios-webkit-debug-proxy?

ios-webkit-debug-proxy (iwdp) is an open-source command-line tool from Google that lets Chrome DevTools, and anything else speaking the Chrome Remote Debugging Protocol, attach to Safari and web views on an iOS device or simulator. It speaks Apple's Web Inspector protocol to the phone over USB through libimobiledevice and translates it for the desktop.

It is the building block behind many desktop and editor integrations for iOS web debugging rather than a debugger of its own: it has no interface, no page preview and no setup diagnostics, and the person using it pairs it with a DevTools front end and works out device pairing, driver and port problems by hand. On Windows it needs the Apple mobile device service; on Linux, libimobiledevice and usbmuxd.
