This is an amazing website. I loved the candle features and the timer features, especially the custom backgrounds and the noises when typing. I would recommend it for studying, writing, making lists, whatever you need to do.

What is Inka?

Inka is a writing room you customize to fit your vibe. You set the room up first, the way you would set up a desk, and then you write.

Rooms. Thirty-eight of them, animated and still: a rainy city, a campfire, a moonlit ocean. Five are free. The room brightens as you keep typing, and the light follows you.

Sound. Nineteen ambient sounds, and they mix — rain and a fireplace and a train at once, each with its own volume. Eight are free. Key sounds too: Cream is free, CherryMX, Typewriter and Panda are Pro. You can also paste a Spotify playlist, album or track link and it plays in the page.

The page and the type. Four typefaces, four pages behind the words, plus size, line spacing, text opacity and colour. All free. Legible mode — Atkinson Hyperlegible, wider spacing, taller lines — is always free.

Writing. Your work saves as you type, including the line you have not finished, and a copy of each piece is kept for each of the last seven days you wrote. Today's journal opens an entry dated today. The typo checker puts a dotted underline under a word it does not know once a sentence settles; it runs on your device and sends nothing anywhere.

Focus. A timer with four looks: flip clock, ring, candle, hourglass. Free up to 25 minutes or open-ended, Pro up to 180. When a block ends Inka offers a break and then brings you back. There is a daily word goal drawn as a hairline along the bottom edge, a streak, and stats.

Getting it out. Copy all, download .txt, download .docx, or send the piece to Google Docs. Export is free for everyone, and copy, .txt and .docx need no connection.

It runs in a browser. Nothing to install, though it does install as an app if you want it in its own window. After the first visit it works offline. Your writing is saved on your device and only leaves it if you sign in to sync between devices. No ads, and nothing writes for you.

Free to write in: 5 of 38 rooms, 8 of 19 sounds, the Cream key sound, timers up to 25 minutes or open-ended, three pieces, today's journal (it counts as one of the three), Legible mode, sign-in and sync, and export. Inka Pro is $5.99 a month, $49 a year, or $99 once — the one-time payment never renews.
