Imgur is a free and simple image hosting service with image editing feature. Signup is optional. Imgur is pronounced like image-er; imager.
The maximum non-animated file size you can upload is 20MB. Non-animated images over 1MB for anonymous uploads and 5MB for account holders will be lossily compressed. All non-animated images receive lossless compression that reduces filesize while maintaining quality. The maximum file size for animated images (like GIFs) and video is 200MB. Video uploads cannot be longer than 60 seconds. GIF and video files over 2MB will be converted to GIFVs, where the sound is removed. Large GIFs will be converted to GIFV, which shrinks file size while maintaining a high quality, perfect for our expert GIF makers.
There is an upload limit of 50 images per hour.
Images may be removed if they get no views in 6 months.
File types allowed: JPEG, GIF, PNG, APNG, TIFF, BMP, PDF, XCF (GIMP). The TIFF, BMP, PDF and XCF formats will be converted to PNG on upload.

Imgur is terrible now, it doesn't allow you to post a image via a mobile device unless you download their app, no thanks! It became instantly useless for me.
Nothing for serious photographers - more a playground for children.
I'm rating this from the viewpoint of image hosting. Imgur used to be the simplest, easiest image host that I could find. It's still decent, but as the years go by they keep stripping features from the image hosting area and forcing me more and more towards the awful front page and social "meme-sharing" functionality they've branched out to. There is no good reason to strip out perfectly working features such as view styles and album overview other than to force users to change how they use your platform. I just want to create an album and share it, why must I go through 10 hard-to-find sub menus to get there when previously an easy overview was one dropdown away?
Imgur is still one of the best image hosts around, for now, due to their stability. They've been here this long and won't be leaving any time soon, so it's unlikely you will lose your images. That said, they seem determined to become more of a social network than a good image host and the moment a solid replacement shows up, I will be leaving.
vs ImageShack
API
http://api.imgur.com/
vs google
I would like to outline few facts.
1 - Imgur is not responsive either, responsive is refereed to sites which can scale or dynamically change there site layout/structure based on active Window view. A responsive example is Twitter Bootsrap CSS Framework. Imgur however is NOT RESPONSIVE.
2 - Imgur does not retain FILENAME either
3 - There aren't many Imgur API based applications, there is at-least few for every-device for ImageShack.
4 - There is no life-spam on files there removed in term to TOS violation
5 - Rape quality? Really. Imgur does not allow GIF > 2MB, ImageShack has no problem with GIF > 2MB and it has yet to "RAPE" image quality. I am sure you never been "RAPED". And using the word that has nothing to do with "image quality" is out of place.
6 - WTF? Where have you been living? ImageShack had Flash and HTML support for years. So I am not sure what you been using but its been there always.
