What is ImgSeek AI?

ImgSeek is a desktop app for Mac and Windows that searches your own files by image. Give it a reference picture and it returns the most visually similar images from the folders you have indexed, ranked by similarity.

It is built for a different job from duplicate finders. dupeGuru compares a coarse grid of average colours, and Czkawka compares image hashes; both are free, fast to set up and very good at recognising the same image after resizing, recompression or a watermark. Neither is designed to pair two different photographs of the same subject. ImgSeek runs a neural network (DINOv2) over every image and compares descriptions of what each one shows, so it can match the same object across viewpoint, lighting and background. The cost is a much heavier indexing pass and results that someone still needs to review.

Image files: JPEG, PNG, WebP, BMP, GIF, TIFF, iPhone HEIC and camera RAW (Canon CR2/CR3, Nikon NEF, Sony ARW, Fujifilm RAF, DNG, Olympus/OM System ORF, Panasonic RW2).

It also indexes the pictures inside documents: PDF (page by page), Word (.docx), PowerPoint (.pptx) and Excel (.xlsx, .xls). A match tells you the document and the page or slide it came from.

Indexing and search run entirely on your computer, and images and the index never leave it. The app goes online only to activate a license and to check for updates.

There is a 14-day free trial with every feature, no card required.

Limitations, stated plainly: Apple Silicon only (no Intel Mac build); no Linux version; the Mac build is not yet notarized by Apple, so the first launch needs a manual approval; closed source; on Windows, indexing uses an NVIDIA graphics card automatically if there is one, otherwise it runs on the CPU and the first pass over a large library is noticeably slower than on an Apple Silicon Mac; camera RAW files are matched from the preview image embedded in the file, not by decoding the raw data; no asset management (no albums, tags or ratings); single-machine, no team features.
