Hurl - Choose a Browser
14 likes
Sometimes you might want to open a link in a browser of your choice, instead of the default one. Hurl is used to let you choose the browser everytime you click a link (links outside of browser). So naturally, It acts as default browser to do that.

I needed something that gives me the option to choose which browser opens when I open a link on Thunderbird, secondly I sometimes find myself wanting to switch a tab to a different Chrome user profile, this does both! Open source, which means free and verifiable what it's doing, which means safe!
It could do with more features, like rules and conditions, which is mentioned on the gituhb page as things "coming soon", so hopefully this gets even better, but for me it does what I want.
It lacks a bit of GUI customizations, for example to change the order, add browsers you'll have to edit the code, which makes it quite powerful, but a bit time consuming to setup.
Downloaded from SoftPedia. Program did not start. Later downloaded from GitHub along with the .Net 6 and setting default https. Still didn't work. The program called "Browser Select" works fine for Win 10. Realize that these programs only work for links outside of browsers.. like those in pdfs.
Why would you not try alternative links, like the project's github page before giving a two star rating? Also why even two stars, why not 1 or 5 in that case. Very odd, because the program is not that complicated so should have started, maybe you lacked .NET 6 Desktop Runtime, which is mentioned on the main page for this program.
Thank you for the recommendation. From GitHub I followed link & installed .NET 6 & the setup as linked onto my faster system. I restarted my computer, tried running it a few times with & without admin privilege, shut off my firewall, tried again.. Again, the program didn't start. Then I noticed the writeup said "After installing, You might need to set Hurl as the default http/https protocol handler in the Windows Settings, just like how you change the default browser." It's not as clearcut as changing the default browser, and it's not something everyone would be comfortable doing, but it's doable w/the 3rd set of default setting options and I did it. Program still didn't run. Seems to me that there's probably something out there that doesn't have as much unexpected hoop jumping.
