GitGem ranks projects by star velocity rather than total stars, so a project climbing fast can outrank one sitting on a huge but stagnant count. It aggregates activity from GitHub, GitLab, and Codeberg into a single feed, with filters for language, forge, and time window.

Beyond the trending feed, GitGem offers curated gems hand-picked for quality, a topic browser for exploring by subject, daily charts for repositories and developers, and a community showcase where developers can submit and promote their own work. Maintainers can add a README badge that shows their current or peak ranking.
