My opinion on Python vs GDScript is that GDScript is a bit more sophisticated and improved Python with some LUA.
I would say learn Python first, it will 100% help you in learning any other language including GDScript. I learned Python back in 2019 and havent touched it ever since. Few weeks ago I started developing my own game in GDScript lang aka GODOT engine and I was pretty familiar with everything.
