What is FreeDisplay?

FreeDisplay is a free, open-source menu bar app that covers the parts of BetterDisplay most people use.

It controls the hardware brightness of external monitors over DDC/CI and falls back to software dimming when a monitor doesn't support it. Your keyboard brightness keys work on external screens too, and brightness can follow the built-in display.

You can turn on HiDPI modes, switch resolutions, arrange displays by dragging, switch color profiles, adjust the image, save presets, create virtual displays, hide the notch and use a night mode with a daily schedule.

No account, no telemetry. The only network call is an optional update check. Works on macOS 14 and later, on Apple silicon and Intel. English and Turkish UI. MIT license.
