What is Floodtide?

Floodtide is a native macOS app that keeps installed apps up to date without maintaining its own version database.

Most updaters depend on a hand-curated catalogue of app versions. That is expensive to run and goes stale the moment the maintainer stops, which is exactly what happened to MacUpdater. Floodtide reads each app's own update source instead: the Sparkle feed the developer already publishes, or the Homebrew cask catalogue. There is nothing in the middle to fall behind.

It scans your Applications folder, shows what is outdated, and updates apps in one pass with a verified backup and an undo for every install. Apps it cannot handle are named as such rather than quietly skipped.

Coverage: about 1,400 apps matched to Homebrew with published checksums, plus any app shipping a Sparkle feed, which is most independent Mac software. It does not update Mac App Store apps.

Privacy: no telemetry unless you switch it on. It reads version information from /Applications the way a file browser does, asks for an administrator password only when an installer genuinely needs one, and explains every prompt.

Requires macOS 13 Ventura or later. Intel and Apple Silicon. Signed and notarized.
