I have found Fission to be a superb, lossless editor, especially for doing quick edits on long live recording form my Zoom H4. The abilities and limits of Fission are a function of it being a lossless editor. Strengths: open and save files in original format; opens even large (1-2 hours long) files FAST because, unlike Audacity, SoundTrack, GB, etc., it's not converting the file to a secondary format; ability to select sections and increase/decrease gain; split files into multiple segments with Fade In/Out around the split; save a queue sheet. Limits - due mostly to being a lossless editor: no compressor or ability to use Apples Audio functions; no separate view of Right/Left channels or ability to pan.
This is an incredibly useful and easy to use tool. I've taught my non-technical wife and others how to use it and they love that it lets them edit, add fades and combine tracks. If you don't need compression or other filters, OR, you want a quick way to edit recorded content down before doing further work on it later, this is the tool to have.
