filex

filex connects the storage you already have (local disks, S3-compatible buckets, SFTP, FTP/FTPS, WebDAV and SMB shares) into one file tree. Files stay where they are, in their normal format; trash, versions and drafts are kept in hidden folders at the storage root.

What is filex?

filex connects the storage you already have (local disks, S3-compatible buckets, SFTP, FTP/FTPS, WebDAV and SMB shares) into one file tree. Files stay where they are, in their normal format; trash, versions and drafts are kept in hidden folders at the storage root. The same tree can be served back over S3, WebDAV, SFTP, FTPS and NFSv3 with the same permissions as the web UI.

People use it from the browser, from a desktop app for Windows, Linux and macOS (Apple Silicon) that keeps chosen folders synced both ways, or from the command line. It has share links with PIN, expiry and download limits, file request links, OIDC and LDAP/Active Directory login, roles and groups, multi-tenancy, end-to-end encrypted folders, and a built-in MCP server for AI agents. The explorer can also be embedded in other products as a Vue 3, React or web component.

SQLite is the default database; PostgreSQL and MySQL/MariaDB are supported. Office documents are edited through an ONLYOFFICE Document Server you run next to it, and full-text search respects each person's permissions. MIT licensed.
