Fabularium is described as 'Create and play interactive fiction on your Android phone or tablet. Also known as text adventures, interactive books, playable novels, z-machine, glulx, tads, terps'. There are four alternatives to Fabularium for Windows, Android, Electron / Atom Shell, Linux and Mac. The best alternative is Text Fiction, which is both free and Open Source. Other great apps like Fabularium are Windows Frotz (Free, Open Source), Lectrote (Free, Open Source) and Windows Git (Free, Open Source).
With interactive fiction novels you're more than just a passive book reader, following the adventures of the hero. Instead, you become the hero! Explore the world, make decissions and ultimately decide on the outcome.
The Interactive Fiction interpreter in an Electron shell Lectrote currently supports: Glulx games (.ulx or .gblorb), as produced by Inform 7. Z-code games (.z3/.z4/.z5/.z8 or .zblorb), as produced by Inform 7 or earlier versions of Inform. Hugo games (.hex).
Windows Git is an interpreter for Glulx games. Windows Git consists of a core interpreter called Git, and an input/output library, called Windows Glk. Together these two components form the Windows Git package, which has been created by David Kinder.
