The company behind ExpressVPN is Express Technologies Ltd which is a subsidiary of Kape Technologies since 2021. Kape Tech positions itself as a cybersecurity company headquartered in London. Kape’s old identity as Crossrider, which was associated with adware/PUP-type behavior before the company rebranded and pivoted into privacy software.
Kape isn't just "a cybersecurity company." Before its rebranding, Kape was called Crossrider, a platform widely documented for distributing adware and PUPs (see Malwarebytes, TechCrunch). The name change was explicitly motivated by a desire to distance itself from that past. Since then, Kape has acquired ExpressVPN, CyberGhost, PIA, ZenMate, as well as Webselenese, which manages several "independent" VPN review sites. In other words: the group controls both a large part of the VPN market and the sites that recommend them. https://restoreprivacy.com/kape-technologies-owns-expressvpn-cyberghost-pia-zenmate-vpn-review-sites/ You can use their products if you want, but presenting Kape as a "security-oriented" player without mentioning this history is only telling half the story.
