EmailTray works with Thunderbird. Thunderbird does not play sound notifications for specific mail filters. So I redirect important letters with filters to just one folder in one of my email accounts. Then EmailTray monitors that folder and plays a WAV-sound when the important mail arrives. It compensates for the Thunderbird sound incapability well.
It has worked on my PC for 10 months already. The initial use of it described above was lame. I no longer keep Thunderbird open. This program can check any number of mailboxes. Now I have only Emailtray running with only little resource consumption. When some filter is triggered, I hear the music and open Thunderbird to deal with a new message with comfort.
