editpot

Free browser-based image editor with layers, masks, selections, drawing tools, text, filters and blend modes. It can edit animated GIFs frame by frame, create favicon packages with web and app icons, and open flattened PSD or AI files locally without an account.

Cutting a subject out with the lasso tool. The checkerboard is real alpha, so the result exports straight to a transparent PNG. The panel on the right has feathering, expand/contract, and Shift or Alt to add, subtract and intersect selections.

What is editpot?

editpot is a free image editor that runs in your web browser. It opens PNG, JPG and GIF files in a layered editor with the tools you would expect from a desktop app: resize, crop, rotate, canvas resize, selections (rectangular, lasso and magic wand with feathering), layer masks, brush and eraser, shapes, gradients, text, colour replacement, HSL adjustment, blur, sharpen and noise filters, blend modes, strokes and shadows. Photoshop keyboard shortcuts and modifier keys are matched, so V, M, L, B, T and C do what you expect and Shift or Alt combine selections the same way.

Two things it does that general image tools usually do not. It generates a complete favicon set: an ICO with real 16, 32 and 48 pixel entries, apple-touch-icon, PWA and Android launcher icons and an HTML snippet, packaged as a ZIP. And it edits animated GIFs frame by frame, re-encoding in a background worker so the interface stays responsive. PSD and AI files can be opened and converted to PNG without Photoshop or Illustrator.

Editing runs in the browser by default, so files are processed locally rather than uploaded to a server. No account is required, there is no watermark, and the free editing tools are not limited. Signing in is optional and only carries your session between visits.

Limits worth knowing: PSD and AI files open as flattened images rather than editable layer trees and cannot be saved back to those formats; uploads are capped at 50 MB and 8,000 pixels per side, with up to five files open at once; GIF re-encoding re-quantises each frame to 256 colours, which can change how it looks; there is no video-to-GIF conversion and no AI background removal. The interface is available in English, Korean, Japanese, Simplified Chinese, Spanish and French.
