Dotient

Dotient is a local-first file search app that actually understands what your files look like, not just their names. Search your photos, PDFs, and documents by meaning, organize them visually, and keep everything private on your own device.

The main archive view of the app, where you will be searching for your files. It features a pinterest-like masonry layout where you can also customize how many columns there are, metadata visibility, and the border-radius of items.

What is Dotient?

Dotient is a semantic file search and organization app that runs entirely on your computer, no cloud, no uploads, no subscriptions required to own it. Instead of matching filenames or folders, Dotient uses AI embeddings to understand what your files actually mean, so you can search for "beach sunset photos" or "invoices from last spring" and get results even if none of those words appear in the file itself. It combines traditional keyword search with semantic search using a technique called reciprocal rank fusion, so you get the precision of exact matches and the flexibility of AI understanding at the same time. This works across images, PDFs, and other documents, including visual search inside PDFs by selecting a region of a page. Beyond search, Dotient gives you Cubbies, a visual canvas for organizing files like a local, private Pinterest board, complete with auto-clustering, sticky notes, and connectors. There's also a graph view that maps relationships between your files visually, built to handle tens of thousands of files without slowing down. You can also train your own custom classifiers, called Signals, directly in the embedding space, letting Dotient learn to recognize specific things you care about or extremely unique things that the model might not know. Things like characters from a movie or tv-show that you watch. Or maybe the name of your dog or family members. Everything runs locally on your machine using a lightweight ONNX-based model pipeline, so your files never leave your computer and there's no dependency on an internet connection or a company's servers to keep working. Dotient is built for people who want a Bloomberg-terminal-style research tool for their own files: fast, private, and genuinely useful for making sense of a growing pile of digital clutter.
