What is Design Previewer?

Design Previewer is a Windows File Explorer extension that shows real thumbnails for design files that Windows normally displays as blank or generic icons. It also shows a larger preview of the selected file in the Explorer Preview Pane (Alt+P), including every artboard of a multi-artboard file.

Supported formats:

  • Adobe Photoshop: PSD, PSB, PDD, PSDT
  • Adobe Illustrator: AI, AIT
  • EPS: EPS, EPSF
  • CorelDRAW: CDR, CMX, CDT, from CorelDRAW 3 to current versions
  • Adobe InDesign: INDD, INDT
  • PDF
  • Sketch
  • Adobe XD
  • Affinity: AF, AFDESIGN, AFPHOTO, AFPUB
  • SVG

The design applications do not need to be installed. Design Previewer reads only the preview data stored inside each file, so even a file of several hundred megabytes is previewed by reading a small part of it. Files are only read: nothing is changed, and nothing is uploaded.

Nothing runs in the background. There is no service, no startup entry, and no toolbar, and memory is handed back to Windows a few seconds after a preview is made.

Requires Windows 10 or 11, 64-bit. A 15-day trial with every feature unlocked is available without an account or a payment card. After the trial, a yearly licence or a one-time lifetime licence is needed. A licence can be moved to another computer.
