What is Chains?

Chains is workflow software for small editorial, design and print teams that run the same process on every job.

Set up a workflow template once: the phases (for example copy, design, fact-check, print), who does the work and who signs it off in each phase. Every new job follows the template, and its status updates itself as work is handed off and approved. Nobody has to move cards or remember to update a spreadsheet.

  • On you: one list of everything that is waiting on you, across every project.
  • PDF proofing: mark up PDFs together, live, right on the page. Every version and review round is kept, so each comment stays on the version it was made for.
  • Review rounds: send work back for another pass until it is signed off.
  • Parallel branches: copy and design run side by side; the job moves on when both are done.
  • Manual overrides: skip ahead, reopen a phase or close out a job when reality doesn't match the plan.
  • Chrome extension: see what is on you and accept files without opening the web app.

Free for teams of up to 5 people, with no trial and no credit card.
