What is Cap?
Cap is an open source alternative to
Loom. It's a video messaging tool that allows you to record, edit and share videos in seconds.
Cap is an open source screen recording alternative to
Loom for macOS and Windows that lets you capture your screen and camera, then edit recordings locally or share them through Cap Web. It includes instant recording for quick shareable links, plus a Studio mode with a timeline editor, smart auto zoom, multiple layouts, custom branding, cursor and background customization, and recording up to 4K at 60 fps.
For collaboration and hosting, Cap Web supports link based playback with embeds and threaded, timestamp linked comments, and it can be self hosted on your own infrastructure (for example via Docker or Railway). Cap can also be connected to your own S3 compatible storage and custom domain, and optional paid features include transcriptions, AI generated titles and summaries, chapters, viewer analytics, and password protection. Cap Desktop is free to use, but commercial use requires a commercial license.

9€/month for a screen recorder lol
Forces you to allow for using the microphone and the camera, even if you don't need it, and does not fully work. Also forces you to subscribe, and probably paying
Its open source and selfhosted, but i still have to pay 9 dollars a month to record and store videos on my own drives when theres 1000 other programs that do it for free? Or am I missing something here?
