Why BitBroom Is Different from Other Cleaners
BitBroom is an open-source cleaner (MIT), free, with no ads, telemetry, or "Pro" subscription — built on a philosophy that's the inverse of the category's: it's engineered so it can't delete what you care about. Scans are always read-only; nothing moves without your review, everything goes to the Recycle Bin, and the engine re-validates every path twice before acting.
It finds the hidden gigabytes that traditional cleaners ignore: WSL/Docker virtual disks that never shrink, old GPU drivers piling up in the DriverStore, restore points, search indexes — even the current Windows bug that can consume up to 500 GB. There are more than 60 categories, each one individually researched, age-filtered, and guard-tested.
The duplicate finder only declares two files identical after proving it with a full SHA-256, and the engine guarantees that one copy of every group always survives. One-click maintenance tools — compacting WSL/Docker VHDX files, freeing up OneDrive space, removing obsolete drivers, DISM cleanup — use only official Windows mechanisms, with live output.
There's also scheduling through Task Scheduler (no background process), a full CLI with --dry-run and --json, a disk analyzer with a treemap, and a native Windows 11 look.
While other cleaners peddled "registry optimization," ads, and paywalls, BitBroom simply cleans — with open source code you can audit.
