Works mostly fine, best free tool and very good Zoom Alternative (Some PC / Laptop Mics still have problems, it is thesame with JItsi)

Pros

  • Open source and free forever.
  • Works well.
  • Can be self-hosted.
  • Able to reliably support dozens of participants.
  • Voice relies on Freeswitch, which is a proven reliable SIP server. Voice is stable even if video streams have problems.
  • Can be used by SIP clients to connect voice only.
  • Can be used with or without registration.
  • Can handle multiple moderators, silence or kick people, control screen sharing and whiteboard.

Cons

  • Relies on a pretty outdated version of operating system
  • Cannot control/change video resolution on-the-fly, which may result larger bandwidth use
  • No native mobile app, but the responsive web client works well on mobile, too.

What is BigBlueButton?

BigBlueButton enables universities and colleges to deliver a high-quality learning experience to remote students.

Our vision is that starting a web conference should be as easy as clicking a single metaphorical big blue button. As an open source project, we believe it should be easy for others to embrace and extend. And while web conferencing means many things to many people -- our focus is to make the best web conferencing system for distance education.

BigBlueButton supports multiple audio and video sharing, presentations with extended whiteboard capabilities - such as a pointer, zooming and drawing - public and private chat, desktop sharing, integrated VoIP using FreeSWITCH, and support for presentation of PDF documents and Microsoft Office documents. Moreover, users may enter the conference in one of two roles: viewer or moderator.

As a viewer, a user may join the voice conference, share their webcam, raise their hand, and chat with others. As a moderator, a user may mute/unmute others, eject any user from the session, and make any user the current presenter. The presenter may upload slides and control the presentation.
