Ente is miles better than most 2fa services atm and is completely open source and ad free

Not to mention it now has proper cross device support with its own desktop application, following authys own 2fa being discontinued

Really happy with this dev team imo the best 2fa service you can get atm

FOSS alternative to Authy with mobile and website token sync. Can also import/export keys. Only question is how long Ente will keep the service free.

Authy is much better than Google Authenticator. Although local 2FA is more secure in general the security of the app itself is horrible. No cloud sync, only way to transfer 2FA is with the two devices next to each other and QR codes which is better than other solutions but much worse than Authy.

You really must not use Google Authenticator. The security on this app is awful. It requires no authentication to access beyond the phone login, which places is apart from every 2FA app on this list - and not in a good way. Moreover, it has no backup or restore function.

I have no idea why Google has left this in the dark ages, only that they have.

It's an excellent replacement for the now dated Google Authenticator, it comes with enhanced security and backup/restore. You can use it across platform - but only in so much as it requires your phone to authenticate the code. It can not be duplicated yet into a cross platform cross browser version
