What is Age of Wonders?

Age of Wonders (originally entitled World of Wonders) is a turn-based strategy game series with RPG elements. The first game was released by Triumph Studios, a Dutch game developer, in 1999.

the look, scale and feeling of the play are rather similar to Age of Wonders II (Wizard's Throne and Shadow Magic). even though Wesnoth completely lacks empire building and 4X element at all.
