What is Ad Muncher?
Ad Muncher is a powerful advert and popup blocking system for all browsers and advert-displaying programs like Pando, SopCast, ICQ, Morpheus, Kazaa, Grokster, Opera, PalTalk, iMesh, Bearshare, LimeWire, TVAnts.
Ad Muncher can be configured to block anything that annoys Music and sound; Colorful scroll bars; Self-bookmarking; Automatic page reloading; Customized bookmark and address bar icons; Interference with mouse clicks.
You can add your own filters to remove any section of a site that bothers you. Some of the filter categories available include remove links to URL, remove images or etc with URL, block retrieval of URL, remove scripts with text, remove tables with text, remove divs or spans with text.
You can also replace sections of a web site with your own content by using "Replace text" filters. Ad Muncher makes browsing the web enjoyable again.

Ad Muncher hooks the internet itself, not the browser because it restricts advertising for every single program on your computer. That makes it much more useful than Ad Block Plus or any of the other ad blockers which only work in the browser. It certainly is not spam. It is also so user configurable that I haven't even scratched the surface. It's amazingly adjustable. I paid $50.00 for it in about 2003 and it's been worth every penny. I just wish it were available for Ubuntu.
Looks like Privoxy is the only possible alternative. I'll look into it!
privoxy is cross platform, whereas ad muncher is not only exclusively windows it uses nefarious hooks into the winsock. Ad muncher is clearly NOT a loopback proxy. Additionally ad muncher has little user-tweakability. AFAIK it's interwebs spam.
