Comment summary: NextDNS receives praise for its effective ad and tracker blocking without draining device resources. Users appreciate its customizable filters, privacy tools, and configuration options. It's noted for internet protection, though some experience slow load times or connectivity issues with certain firewall settings. Despite the robust free tier, it has a monthly query limit that leads users to consider the affordable Pro tier. Minor concerns include occasional slowdowns and lingering sponsored ads.

Probably the coolest DNS- and adblocking related thing I've come across, works really well in practice.

I don't mind ads, I really don't, as they support the sites that we consume. But what I do mind is that they track you and create profiles, when it's not needed.

NextDNS is brilliant as your firewall to protect you from all kind of online threats and trackers. And there's plenty of blocklists to go through to really fine-tune your experience.

I found it very straight forward and easy to set up on my family's devices. Compared to 1.1.1.1, I found latency NextDNS much better.

While an account is not necessary, it's very handy if you want to save settings and manage multiple devices. Plus, that limit of 300,000 queries per month is not bad at all for a free plan.

As a disclaimer, I am happily paying for an annual plan. Now I feel much safer and secure while browsing the web.

EDIT: Correcting some typos

NextDNS limits the Free tier to 300,000 queries / month. The Pro tier allows unlimited queries, and it costs $1.99 / month. NextDNS can work as parental control software by blocking DNS queries, but does not block offline games and apps.

blocks trackers and ads. protects you from connecting to malicious websites. has option for allowlist and denylist. can be used as a parental control tool. free tier is efficient as monthly queries hardly gets close to the limit of 300,000, even with multiple devices.

Easy enough to set up and interesting at the least.. just scroll down to the NextDNS for Windows on the site, click, and you're rolling. A welcome level of protection aside from firewalls. DNS is a common target for cyberattackers and adding DNS blocking can make a great difference in cyber security. I thought it was pretty perfect until I tried to connect the next day and couldn't, though I know it was the fault of my firewall settings. One thing I did find questionable is that the console isn't accessible from the program tray icon, though I had bookmarked it. I thought I had 7 days to make an account, but it seemed required the next login. I tried 1.1.1.1 program, and it seemed nice, but I missed the Queries details of NextDNS, so I reinstalled, and I'm happy again.

The best Adblocker with many filters to custimize to your liking. The best of all, it runs on the Cloud so everything is automated your job is to sit back and enjoy a better internet.

A real life saver, I never have to worry about per device updates or things going wrong with Adguard as I did in the past. No apps, everything is up to data and managed, it even has better security compared to Enterprise DNS services, I don't know what else I can say.

What is NextDNS?

NextDNS CLI is a DNS53 to DNS-over-HTTPS (DoH) proxy with advanced capabilities to get the most out of the NextDNS service. Although the most advanced features will only work with NextDNS, this program can work as a client for any DoH provider or a mix of NextDNS + another DNS (split horizon).

The CLI is mostly aimed at routers and UNIX based systems, but it is also a great client for windows and macOS for people who prefer a fully open-source clients and don't mind the lack of GUI.
