Tower 14 for Windows launches with enhanced branch management & smarter merge detection

Tower, the popular Git client for developers, has officially launched version 14 for Windows, introducing significant improvements to repository navigation and branch tracking. The centerpiece of this update is a new Branches Review view, located in the workspace section of the sidebar, which provides users with a comprehensive overview of all branches within their repository. Additionally, the release features a smarter Fully Merged detection system that can now identify branches integrated through squash and rebase merges, capabilities that were previously invisible to standard Git operations. According to the developer, this advanced detection is available exclusively in Tower Pro, though basic merge checks remain accessible across all editions.

Building upon the foundation laid by Tower 13's branch pinning and automatic branch management features, version 14 continues the company's focus on helping teams maintain cleaner repositories. Users working with repositories containing hundreds of references can now apply filtering settings to remote branches and tags, with options to limit displayed entries to the most recent 10, 25, 100, or 500 items. The update also brings quality-of-life enhancements, including diff context controls relocated to the file diff footer for easier access, and a refreshed application icon. Beyond feature additions, the team addressed several reported bugs and made general performance improvements across the platform.

In a notable expansion of accessibility, Tower announced that Tower Pro is now offered free of charge to students, teachers, and educational institutions, a move aimed at supporting the next generation of developers. The 30-day free trial remains available for those evaluating the software before committing to a subscription.
