
Immich 3.2 debuts new search API, cluster groups, workflows' expansion, and much more
Immich, the widely used open-source, self-hosted alternative to Google Photos, has released version 3.2, headlined by a ground-up rebuild of its search infrastructure. The new search API v2 on the server side supports searching within albums and combining multiple filters with both AND and OR operations. While not all of these capabilities are user-facing yet, they lay the groundwork for future features in the search interfaces and give third-party tools significantly more functionality. Complementing the server-side work, the web search modal has been remodeled by the project's new designer, trading a previously complex layout for a significantly simpler, more visually appealing look, with the same functionality and some quality-of-life additions, and future room to expose the new API's filter capabilities.
The release also expands collaboration features with cluster groups, allowing users to invite trusted users into a group, so people can be recognized across their shared assets. Because face clustering operates on a larger combined pool of faces, accuracy is likely to improve as well. On the automation front, Immich's workflows gain a tag-based trigger, letting users run automations whenever an asset is tagged, supported by a filter that matches specific tags using all, any, or none semantics, and a new action that adds a list of tags to an asset at once.
Rounding out the highlights, version 3.2 introduces a dedicated memories page where past memories can be browsed and favorited, so cherished moments are preserved indefinitely as a place to revisit and reminisce. On web, users can now rename existing tags, a seemingly small edit-modal addition that was more complex under the hood than expected, and show all assets currently visible on the map via a new control that opens a live-updating timeline as you pan around the viewport. The update also arrives alongside the recently introduced Docker Compose builder, a companion tool that lets users assemble a custom Immich Compose file more easily.
