Immich 3.0 adds non-destructive editing & OCR on mobile, workflows, and improved backups

Immich 3.0 marks a major release for this open source, self-hosted solution for high-performance photo and video management. The update brings non-destructive photo editing to mobile devices, delivering parity with the web feature introduced in version 2.5. These improvements fulfill one of the most popular requests from users who manage their media libraries across devices.

Alongside editing enhancements, Immich launches the first preview of Workflows, which enables users to automate actions in their libraries by combining triggers, filters, and actions via a drag-and-drop builder. This foundation supports future growth in automation opportunities. Reliability in background backup is notably improved on Android, and on iOS, parallel processing of sync and uploads now ensures uploads begin promptly within iOS's tight background-task constraints.

Building on these core updates, Immich adds features like a “Recently added” page for both web and mobile, making it easy to browse assets by the time they were added. The maintenance section now incorporates integrity reports that scan file system directories for consistency with the database. Other notable changes include a mobile slideshow experience, direct album uploads, image size selection when sharing, smoother browsing of large months, a new video player on the web, OCR on mobile, the ability to use Immich as a gallery/image viewer on Android, and on-the-fly video transcoding, eliminating the need for offline processing.
