Blackmagic Camera 3.5 for iOS brings iPhone 18 Pro support and Apple ProRes recording

Blackmagic Design today announced the release of version 3.5 for its iOS camera app, marking a significant expansion of professional filmmaking capabilities on Apple's latest hardware. The update introduces native support for the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max, unlocking previously inaccessible camera controls for content creators. Most notably, users can now manipulate the variable aperture on the device's 48MP Fusion Main camera, granting them unprecedented control over depth of field and exposure adjustments directly from their phones. This functionality, traditionally reserved for dedicated cinema cameras, represents a notable convergence of mobile and professional-grade cinematography tools.

The update also expands recording options with support for Cinematic mode video capture and the ability to record Apple ProRes footage directly to Pro Video Storage. These additions streamline workflows for filmmakers who previously had to rely on intermediate transfer steps or compromise on codec quality when shooting on mobile devices. Alongside the headline features, version 3.5 includes general performance enhancements and stability improvements across the application. The app is available now through the iOS App Store.
