Zotero 10 improves search capabilities, adds PDF reading mode, and brings multi-selection
Zotero 10 has been released as the newest version of this open source research management software. The update introduces a redesigned advanced search, now accessible via a filter button in the quick-search bar. This tool supports nested condition groups and automatically maps conditions across the hierarchy, enhancing search capability for complex queries.
Alongside the new search interface, most searching now ignores accents, typographic characters, and formatting, producing more consistent results. Full-text content searches have also been optimized for near-instant feedback, and unquoted searches for Chinese, Japanese, or Korean text deliver more accurate, phrase-based matches, which improves both speed and accuracy. These changes are supported by an overhaul of background processing for attachment indexing, leading to faster and more reliable content scanning.
Building on usability, Zotero 10 allows users to select multiple rows in the collections pane and view items across selected libraries. Editing workflows have expanded as well, with multi-item editing now possible and a new ability to undo or redo many actions. For reading, the Read Aloud feature better skips over extraneous elements, and a new reading mode displays PDFs in a clean, reflowable format with adjustable font and spacing. The release also includes an updated Zotero Connector for Safari, citation preview in dialogs, reduced reader tab memory usage, and more.
