Nvidia reportedly in talks to buy open-source AI platform Hugging Face for $12.9 billion
Nvidia has reportedly held talks in recent weeks to acquire Hugging Face, the open-source AI platform widely used for sharing and developing AI models. The potential deal would value Hugging Face at more than $12.9 billion, although no agreement has been reached and the talks could still fall apart. Business Insider previously reported that Hugging Face was receiving takeover interest, while Microsoft also reportedly met with the company, though those discussions are no longer ongoing. Neither Nvidia nor Hugging Face has commented on the reports.
Nvidia already has a financial relationship with Hugging Face, having participated in its $235 million funding round in 2023, which valued the company at $4.5 billion. Nvidia also reportedly offered to invest $500 million in Hugging Face in late 2025 at a $7 billion valuation, but the offer was rejected because Hugging Face did not want a dominant investor that could influence its decisions.
As many of you know, Hugging Face sits at the center of the open-source AI ecosystem, hosting millions of models and datasets used by developers. At more than $13 billion, the deal would also rank among Nvidia's largest acquisitions.
