It comes with the benefits of open source, and also allows for choosing which model to use and whether or not to use search.
This isn't just a service, it's basically the center of all the open source models and finetunes on the market. The ability to test different things using cloud computing space for free rather than running it on your own hardware or having to download anything is a nice perk. This is also where most open source models (like in LMStudio or SillyTavern's transformers.js implementations) get pulled from. If you use a lot of AI tools outside of the big corpo ones, you've probably used or benefited from HuggingFace without realizing it.
