Calibre 9.14 adds AI ebook cover generation, image preview on hover, and new AI providers
Calibre 9.14 has been released as the latest version of the free and open-source ebook management application. The release introduces AI-assisted cover generation and changes to its provider options.
With the new cover workflow, users can select a book, open “Edit metadata”, and choose “AI Generate”. The tool offers various styles, including romance, science fiction, and pulp fiction. An image-generation AI provider must be configured the first time it is used.
Alongside the generator, Calibre adds Anthropic and Grok backends, providing support for Claude and Grok models. It also removes the GitHub backend because that service has been discontinued.
For file browsing, hovering over an image file now opens a floating preview next to the file browser. Within metadata editing, the tag editor search function now ignores accents, so matching tags can be found despite diacritics. Rounding out the release, Calibre 9.14 fixes 14 bugs, adds one news source, and improves six existing news sources.
