WhatsApp develops first-party encrypted cloud backup for Android and iOS

WhatsApp is developing a first-party encrypted cloud backup service for both Android and iOS, allowing users to store chat backups on WhatsApp’s own servers instead of Google Drive or iCloud.

All backups stored on WhatsApp's servers will have end-to-end encryption enabled by default.

The new provider will offer users 2 GB of free cloud storage, with paid plans available for those needing more space.

This option is still under development with no official release date announced.
