WhatsApp brings web calling, call transfer, waiting rooms, QuickHD, and noise suppression

WhatsApp is expanding its calling features with updates designed for flexibility and ease of use across devices. Users can now make and receive both audio and video calls, including group calls, directly from WhatsApp on the web. This does not require any app downloads and provides access to screen sharing, reactions, a dedicated calls tab, and full call history, all within the browser. Calls placed through the web version are end-to-end encrypted, have no time limits, and are free.

In addition, users benefit from enhanced cross-device functionality. Active group calls can now be transferred seamlessly between mobile, tablet, web, and desktop without interruptions, so you can start a call on one device and move it to another as needed. In addition, to provide better control in group calls, a waiting room is now available for links with “Require approval to join” enabled, letting hosts manage who joins and when.

Further improvements include QuickHD, which delivers high-definition video from the first seconds of a call, and a new noise suppression feature that reduces background sound for clearer audio. Noise suppression can be managed directly in the in-call settings. All these features are being rolled out gradually and will be available to all users soon.
