LineageOS introduces web flashing tools, revamped stats page, Android 17 plans, and more
LineageOS has launched multiple updates aimed at enhancing both user experience and developer processes of this Android-based operating system. The stats page has been completely rewritten, now featuring a map to visualize active installations and advanced filtering by country, carrier, device model, and version. In response to longstanding requests, LineageOS now offers browser-based web flash tools in its download portal, enabling users to flash devices using fastboot, Android Debug Bridge, and Samsung’s Odin protocol directly from their web browsers.
Following these usability enhancements, the LineageOS wiki now has a built-in dark mode for improved readability and reduced eye strain. The Gerrit code review tool has also been updated to the latest version and provides an additional authentication option: developers can now log in with either their Google or GitHub accounts.
The project’s issue tracker has shifted from GitLab to GitHub, streamlining bug submissions with easy-to-complete forms and real-time notifications for device maintainers. Addressing maintenance and security, LineageOS has deployed security patches alongside updates for key core applications, such as Etar and Seedvault. In addition, the Updater application benefits from Material 3 Expressive design, a refreshed codebase, and improved reliability and user experience.
Lastly, since Google released Android 17 to the public a few weeks ago, LineageOS 24 development is underway, based on this latest version of Android.
