Zed for Business launches with advanced admin controls and flexible AI billing

Zed, the popular AI-native code editor, has introduced Zed for Business, a new offering designed for professional software development teams. The business-focused version is generally available at $30 per seat, per month, targeting enterprise users seeking specialized management features.

With Zed for Business, prompt sharing and edit prediction training are turned off by default at the organizational level, and individual engineers cannot override these settings. This approach strengthens governance for companies handling sensitive code or data. In addition, administrators can disable Zed-hosted models, edit predictions, and collaboration tools across the organization. Teams relying on Zed-hosted models can also have global token spend limits configured to manage and cap usage expenses.

The business plan does not include bundled AI credits. This decision was made to accommodate companies with existing AI contracts or preferred providers, ensuring they only pay for the AI resources they use. If teams require Zed-hosted AI, costs are billed transparently at the provider's rate plus a 10 percent fee.

Looking ahead, Zed is working on implementing SAML and OpenID Connect authentication, SCIM for user provisioning, and aiming for SOC 2 certification to meet enterprise compliance standards.
